2006 Epiphone ’58 Reissue Explorer – Korean Made
The 2006 Epiphone ’58 Reissue Explorer is a highly regarded, mid-2000s electric guitar built to replicate the radical, futuristic aesthetic of Gibson’s original 1958 Explorer. Most notably manufactured in the Unsung Factory, South Korea, during this specific era, these instruments are widely praised by players for their superior build quality compared to later mass-produced versions.
Key Technical Specifications
Body & Neck Material: Most commonly built using a Korina body and neck (African Limba wood), prized for its lightweight resonance and distinct grain.
Profile: Comfortable, chunkier 1958 Explorer profile with a set-neck (glued-in) joint. Fretboard: 22-fret rosewood fingerboard featuring classic dot inlays and a 12-inch radius.
Pickups: Stocked with two Epiphone Alnico Classic Humbuckers managed by two volume controls, one master tone control, and a 3-way toggle switch.
Hardware: Traditional gold-plated hardware including a standard Tune-o-matic bridge, stopbar tailpiece, and vintage-style tuners. Headstock: The iconic, oversized “hockey-stick” headstock geometry.
Why the 2006 Korina Model is Special The Tone Wood: Korina (African Limba) is famous for its warm, balanced tone. It has a punchy midrange similar to mahogany but with a brighter, more responsive top end. The Look: It features a striking, pale-amber translucent finish that showcases the straight, clean wood grain. It is paired with a classic 4-ply white pickguard and gold hardware.
Korean Craftsmanship: 2006 was a transitional year for Epiphone, but many Korina models from this exact window were built in renowned Korean factories like Unsung (serial number starts with U) or Saein (starts with I). These are highly prized for having tighter build tolerances and better fretwork than later factory runs. This guitar is in good used shape and has a few dings and scratches which is normal for a 20 year old guitar. Comes with a hard shell case. Professionally setup and plays great! $1100.00 with hard shell case.
